Nigeria and Sri Lanka maintain formal diplomatic relations, supported by their shared participation in multilateral organizations, such as the United Nations, the Commonwealth, NAM, and G-77. Trade between Nigeria and Sri Lanka is currently moderate. While Nigeria imports tea, textiles, and rubber—it exports oil derivatives and raw materials. The two countries are signatories to the Global System of Trade Preferences (GSTP), reflecting their participation in established multilateral trade agreements.
 

Education

Nigeria and Sri Lanka have a relatively active, informal engagement in the education sector. Sri Lanka has been a destination for some Nigerian students pursuing higher studies in nursing, medical sciences, and business administration. Sri Lanka has a modest expatriate community presence in Nigeria, who are primarily involved in technical consulting and medical services.
